I've got an obsession with house plants. I currently have almost 40 plants in my house and I love each and every one of them. Plants just make me happy!  I've actually gone through probably hundreds of plants over the years, trying to get just the right plant for the right light.  If you are obsessed like me with houseplants, then you probably also love planters and well anything botanical.  I've picked out just a few of my favorites featuring concrete, ceramic, brass and copper.

Where is your studio located?

I'm lucky that I have studio where I live, which sometimes is more challenging, especially when there are school holidays and my kids are at home. My home and studio is located in Ljubljana, Slovenia. Ljubljana is a beautiful old European city full of creative people and artists. In the summer time there is always something happening like festivals, street theater, concerts, art fair's and creative workshops.

How did you get started in your craft and what inspires you?

I was a graphic designer for years in one of the biggest trading company. Work in that company was to limited for me, not enough creative work. It was not an easy decision, but I decided to quit my job and go to college again. It was scary at first, especially because the children were still small, but I needed to follow my dream. I graduated with a degree in  scenography and 3D animation.

I have been drawing since I can remember and illustration was always close to me. One day I needed to make illustrations for puppets, for the show in a theater. From that I found my passion from childhood again. I created my brand Mima, which comes from my nickname. My inspiration for my illustrations is everything that surrounds me, my family,  my dog Ben, nature, books and people.

I still do graphic design and I have creative workshops for kids, but illustration is my first love.

What are the top 3 tools that are most important in your craft?

I can't imagine what it would be like without my sketchbook, watercolours and computer.

What's a typical day in the studio like?

I start a day with a fresh squeezed lemon juice and a cup of coffee. Then I go for a walk with my dog Ben. I take my camera with me and capture life around me and Ben, which is often my inspiration for my work. This ritual is always the same no matter what, but after that it depends of a day. If I don't have any meetings in the city I start creating new illustration, sketching or working on a project, preparing photo material for Social media and so on. Mornings are always part of the day when I'm trying to do the majority of my work, before the kids come home from school.  The evenings are mine again. I work late at night, when everyone around me is sleeping. It's quiet and a night owl like me is the most creative at that time. While working I love to listen folk or classical music.

What are the greatest rewards of creating something that is handmade?

I feel satisfied while I'm working , the fact that my work is something I love, it's part of my life and I can't imagine being without it. The feeling to have a happy customer is the best reward I could get. I'm thankful for everyone who has supported me. Because of them I can live my dream.

A big thanks to Mateja for sharing her studio and her work with us!

Even though the Summer can be super hot in Texas, I have to say I am really looking forward to it. We've had an unusual rainy Spring and we haven't had much sunshine.  I will probably regret wanting warmer weather in about a month, but right now it would be a nice change.  I love Summer because it's when color collides.  From fashion to home decor, it seems like color is everywhere and it's bold and red hot.  That's where I gathered my inspiration for this collection. I needed a color jolt to wake me from my rain induced slumber. How do you spice up your style for Summer?

This stylish post today comes from our west coast correspondent, Cinne of CBanning Accessories and is filled with the light and open air of living in California.  Being an east coast girl myself, dining out in the open air more often looks like a picnic with a grill and some lawn chairs - yet Cinne has taken outdoor dining to a whole new level.  I feel inspired to invite some friends over, whip up an amazingly fresh meal with ingredients from the farmer's market and serve it with a refreshing presecco while we dine over light music and laughter.  Ummmm...ya, sign me up - please!  Enjoying a meal outside under the stars with some tea lights and good company is such a treat.  Cinne's gorgeous selections are a fun reminder to all of us to take advantage of the warm weather and get outside for some delightful dining memories!

In our previous exploration into the creative mind of designer Cinne Worthington, we went on an Ocean Orientated adventure.  Living in the coastal city of SF where she runs her shop CBanning Accessories, Cinne turns eastward for today's post to take us on an inland excursion.  She shares her story through a muted color palette in warm sand tones with punctuated color to create a welcoming and calming mood.  Her style is relaxed, but sophisticated - I almost feel like she might be blogging from a modern spa somewhere in the southwest!  Is this true Cinne...because that would would be nice!  Regardless of where you live, come capture the mood of a special inland inspired retreat!
