Spring is here and Summer is on the way. That means lots of time to spend outside and enjoy the warmer weather.  I've been revamping my backyard all Spring. I removed some of the St. Augustine grass and decided to create a courtyard or basically an outdoor living room.  My home is a 1937 Spanish Revival so I built this collection around items that would work in my space.

Everything is very natural in my courtyard. The space is decomposed granite filled with terra cotta, black and white planters.  I wanted to keep the palette simple ( no bold colors) and the materials very simple ( metal and stone). I am in love with that vertical garden and hope to create something like soon if I can fit it into the space. Hopefully this will give you some inspiration and go outside and create your own special outdoor space. Happy planting!

It's Friday and I'm ready for the long weekend ahead. No big plans for me, but those are sometimes the best long weekends.  I wanted to share with you some favorite handmade finds. It's a mix of geometric and minimal designs. I would love to have that bench in my studio space, wouldn't you?

Have a great weekend!

I like to keep things simple, it's kind of my adopted motto. I'm a an interior design enthusiast and I love clean lines. No extra embellishments allowed, it's nice to see each piece stand on it's own with it's basic shape or pattern.   All of the items I chose for my Minimal Mood are understated but timeless and that's how I like things.  Keep on keeping it SIMPLE and let the design shine through.

I love this time of year! Everything in my garden just started growing and even some flowers are blooming. It's like overnight everything decides Spring is here! I've been busy fertilizing, pulling weeds and tidying up the garden. Even though it's work it doesn't feel like it. It's how I relieve stress and since the temperature is not yet above 80 it's enjoyable to be outside. In my part of the country this is our rainy season, so for my April Inspirations I was feeling greige, natural woods, geometric and pops of blue. To me that combination feels just like a perfect rainy spring day.  What's your favorite aspect of April?

Freezing rain is in the forecast for today and I just don't know how much longer my toes can take being bundled up in wool socks and stuffed in big winter boots!  At least here in my virtual play land, I can create whatever kind of weather I want - I vote for some spring weather, how about you?  I'm seeing beautiful blue skies with light fluffy clouds with a slight breeze that carries the warmth of spring to my door.  I'm inspired to keep my outfit light and minimal with a focus on using color to move the eye through the ensemble.  The gorgeous pink dress is accented with a soft beige to pull this gorgeous spring outfit to life!  Now...I just need it to warm up so I can actually wear something like this outside without freezing!

While I wait for the weather to warm up so I can peel off the many layers I am still wearing, I am thinking about fun ways to dress things up once flip flop weather returns.  Growing up, my Japanese mother always told me that only people who belonged to the yakuza (Japanese mafia) had tattoos, so my little girl mind translated that as "tattoos are bad".  Yet temporary tattoos offer a great compromise when it comes to adorning yourself in a creative and fun way, without the commitment of forever - or joining the mafia!  In the summer I live in flip flops and tank tops, so having a cute temporary tattoo on my arm is something that appeals to my eye.  This summer, I think I'm going to give mom a little scare with a big floral tattoo!
